On this week’s episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the date of Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote, iOS 27’s sweeping Siri redesign, the latest previews of Apple’s accessibility features, and the hinge issues reportedly plaguing the foldable iPhone ahead of its expected fall launch.
Apple this week confirmed its WWDC 2026 keynote for June 8 at 10:00 a.m. PT, with the conference running through June 12. The event is expected to introduce iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visaOSnotes, which will be available right after the developer beta release on September 27. The focus is expected to be on Apple Intelligence and AI advancements across its platforms. No major hardware was mentioned for the keynote, but we will belatedly see the announcement of a new “homeOS” platform for a desktop or wall-mounted smart home hub, although launch timing remains unclear.
BloombergMark Gurman reports that iOS 27 will bring a major redesign of Siri, evolving the assistant into a full-fledged chatbot designed to compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. For the first time, Siri will apparently have a dedicated app that will display a grid or list of past conversations with support for adding to favorites, searching, and starting new chats, all using iMessage-style chat bubbles.
Siri will also reportedly be integrated into Dynamic Island, where launching it will display a “Search or Ask” prompt with a glowing cursor; the results will appear as a translucent card and pull it down to open the full conversation mode. Siri is set to replace Spotlight search, though suggestions will remain and gain access to more user data.
Users will be able to set chats to be automatically deleted after 30 days, one year or never. Despite years of development, the app could be launched as a “beta” and is powered by Google Gemini, although Apple is said to be reluctant to highlight this given Google’s reputation as an advertising business.
Separately, Apple this week unveiled new accessibility features coming later this year, ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, as is Apple’s annual tradition. Among the highlights: VoiceOver Image Explorer uses Apple Intelligence to generate detailed descriptions of images, scanned accounts and personal records throughout the system; the Action button can now be used to ask questions about what the camera is seeing with natural language tracking support; and Voice control gets natural language enhancements that allow users to describe on-screen elements with their own words instead of memorizing the exact labels. Automatic captions for personal videos, generated on the device for videos recorded, received from friends or streamed online will also arrive. The features are expected to launch with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 in September.
Finally, Apple’s “iPhone Ultra” has reportedly hit a new roadblock this week after Weibo leaker “Instant Digital” revealed that test production has run into a serious issue with hinge reliability. According to the leak, the hinge consistently fails Apple’s quality control in high-frequency open and closed testing, ultimately causing an audible rattle, and the problem “must be fixed with absolute perfection or progress will stop.”
It basically matches DigiTimes news in April that delayed production by one to two months, with mass production now shifted from June to August. Bloomberg‘s Gurman pushed back on a Nikkei a report suggesting the device could slip to 2027, calling it “off-base,” and the foldable iPhone is expected to land around the same time or soon after the iPhone 18 Pro models; if it launches in September, supply is expected to be limited, with some reports suggesting that customer availability could drop as late as December.
The foldable iPhone is said to be called the “iPhone Ultra” and is expected to start at more than $2,000, with one report putting it at $2,500, which would make it the most expensive iPhone ever.
